Black Wooden Kitchen Units

Black Wooden Kitchen Units

In Sarah Stewart Smith’s Heredfordshire cottage,
the kitchen was the last room to be finished. ‘While the
children were growing up, it was more of a massive art studio.
There was paint where there shouldn’t have been and it was just
incidental that we cooked in it,’ Made by one of her joiners, the
units are in black, solid core board, the drawer interior finished
in Osmo oil to look like ebony. The floor is not concrete but
painted screed, which is softer underfoot. With seven layers of
rubbed-in paint and varnish between each paint layer, it has proved
so durable that she now uses it in bathrooms.
